The holiday season can be extremely expensive and it can truly make you forget what the season is all about. In fact it can be so stressful and taxing to some that you feel you have nothing to give. Well let me assure you that we all have something we can give! Did you know that the average American throws away 81 pounds of clothing a year. All of this so called trash is not only harmful to our environment but its a huge missed opportunity to give. Thrift is all about giving especially clothing! Through our tremendous donations from people like you we have been able to gift a lot off people with clothing and household items. We've given school uniforms to children who could not afford them, we've given children's clothing to families in need, we've given household items, and we only plan to do more of that next year. We have been so blessed this year by the generosity of others and we only want to pass that on. However, we realize that as a for profit business we are not the only place in town you can and should give to. We love your donations but if you don't give to us please give your clothing to someone. It can really go a long way! There are literally hundreds of places where you can donate clothing but we have compiled a small list here to help you get started. You can click the links (Org names) to find out more about the organizations :) Also feel free to leave the information for an organization we didn't mention in the comments and let's keep the giving going! Cradles to Crayons Cradles to Crayons provides free school supplies, toys, clothing, books, hygiene products, infant care products, and of course clothing to children ages 0-12yrs. In fact the organization I work for in my day job partners with them to give these items so I can testify to their good work. I've even volunteered for them before so I'd highly recommend. Soles4Souls Soles4Souls delivers shoes to people in need around the world. Share Your Soles Share Your Soles gives shoes to impoverished people in countries across the globe including the US. Bridge to Success Bridge to Success provides professional interview attire for people right here in Chicago. Dress for Success Dress for Success provides professional attire for women to secure employment. They specialize in confidence building for those women to obtain safer and better futures. They also have a base right here in Chicago. Brides Across America Brides Across America provides free wedding dresses to military and first responder brides. Change Purse This organization sells gently used purses to help support the victims of sex trafficking and exploitation. One Sight Donate your used glasses to this organization who gives them to people who need assistance with vision correction. Even if you don't feel like going out in the cold to donate there are a host of organizations that will come and pick up your donation for you including Amvets and Vietnam Veterans. Note: We will also pick up donations.... LOL! If none of that interests you there are always local homeless and domestic violence shelters who take donations, local churches, open closets (Like food pantries for clothes), and long standing places like the Salvation Army. I've also included a link to another blog that lists even more places you can donate in this area and nation wide. www.chaostoorder.com/resources/donations/ Happy Giving Thrifters!!! And if you have a little more than clothing to give below is video that illustrates just how good giving can feel :)
